Overview

Taiwan's Ministry of Education scholarship for full degree study — a monthly living stipend plus a tuition grant of up to NT$40,000 per semester. It is open to foreign nationals of any country (except Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao) and is applied for through the Taiwan office in your country, separately from university admission.

Why it is notable: the broadest of Taiwan's three state scholarships (any nationality, any field, any accredited university), but the tuition grant is capped — applicants must check whether their university's tuition exceeds NT$40,000/semester; the single most common failure is confusing the scholarship application with the university admission application.
Funding at a glance

What it covers

  • Monthly stipend: NT$15,000/month (Bachelor's); NT$20,000/month (Master's/Doctoral)
  • Tuition and miscellaneous expenses: up to NT$40,000 per semester (any excess is paid by the student; e.g. NYCU adds up to NT$15,000/semester when costs exceed the cap)
  • (Flights, housing and insurance are NOT covered by the MOE scholarship — budget separately.)
  • Work permission: recipients may apply for a work permit (max 20 hrs/week during semesters, full-time in vacations)
