Overview

The JJ/WBGSP is a fully funded master's scholarship, financed by the Government of Japan and run by the World Bank, for experienced development professionals from eligible developing countries. Applicants must first win unconditional admission to one of 44 designated master's programs at 24 partner universities, then apply for the scholarship in one of two official 2027 windows. Scholars commit to return home after graduation and contribute to their country's development.

Why it is notable: The route in is through a university nomination — the scholarship application link is only sent to candidates who are already unconditionally admitted AND shortlisted by their participating university. Most aggregator pages miss this two-stage gate, so applicants who chase the "scholarship deadline" without an admission strategy lose a year. Also unusual: it funds professional practitioners (3+ years of work experience required), not fresh graduates.
